How well-being coaching aims to support you in your desired change

Sustainable change takes time. Whilst insight can be gained in an instant, making good use of our insights requires commitment and effort. There is no fixed yardstick for how long it takes to assimilate new learning, but if we do want to speed things up, effective support really helps.

My approach to well-being coaching is both systematic and flexible, and works within a number of core themes. There is a certain sequencing to how I approach supporting you in your desired change, although this sequence is not rigidly applied. For example, it is certainly important to start the coaching conversation by clarifying what you want to achieve through the process. However, your goals and objectives are never set in stone - they are always subject to review and updating as we go along. The same is true for exploring your worldview and issues affecting you in your relational context - we would continue to explore those issues throughout the coaching process, and so on.

Core well-being coaching themes

  • Setting your goals and objectives

Exploring what has prompted you to seek coaching support for your well-being and clarifying what you would like to achieve through the coaching process.

  • Exploring your worldview and your support network

Raising awareness of how your thinking, feeling, attitudes and beliefs support and/or hinder you in achieving your desired goals and objectives, and the opportunities and constraints you face in your relational context.

  • Developing your response-ability and emotional resilience

Developing your capacity to deal effectively with the difficulties you face by challenging patterns of  thought, feeling and behaviour that are unhelpful to you and experimenting with new patterns of behaviour that support your well-being

  • Updating, broadening and deepening your new experience

Reinforcing new learning through working with others in small group conversational processes (action learning).

Scope and cost of coaching offer

The following offering reflects what I know to be an effective way of working based on my experience of working as a coach over the last 30 years.

1st Contact Coaching Conversation (120 minutes) - £180

Before the preliminary coaching conversation and once we have set a date for the session, I will send you by email some material to read and reflect on. Part of that material will include a questionnaire which you may or may not wish to complete and send back to me before the conversation. In any case, I will make use of the key themes in the questionnaire to frame the main part of our exploratory conversation.

Within that conversation we will clarify your goals and objectives, explore your current situation and I will share some key concepts and tools that will be useful to you personally in support of your well-being. At the end of the conversation I will do some basic contracting with you, exploring your initial thoughts on whether you would like to continue with the coaching process, and what options and timeframes would suit you best should you wish to. I will then  provide you with a detailed written summary of our conversation, which in my experience is an extremely valuable resource for you in consolidating the insight you will gain from the conversation, whether you choose to continue with the coaching process, or not.

3 Coaching Sessions (90 minutes/session) - £270

We will agree by email the date for the next coaching conversation (the average is 1-1.5 months gap, but significantly shorter timeframes work better for some people, particularly for the 2nd coaching conversation).

At the beginning of each coaching session we will do some checking in - what’s emerged for you since the last conversation, what’s uppermost in your mind right now and how that modifies or refines your goals and objectives. The core of each session will focus on real-time situations and events where you require well-being support, where I will offer relevant concepts and tools to generate insight, reframe your relationship to your experience and experiment with new behaviour. At the end of each session we will review progress and do some contracting for the next session. I will then provide you with a detailed written summary of the conversation, which will continue to underpin clarifying and deepening your learning. If it is the last session, I will include a closing process to draw our conversations to a satisfactory close, and I will also include any relevant closing content in my written summary.

Action Learning Groups (3 hours) - £100 per session

Action learning is a powerful experiential learning process in which participants learn by doing and then reflect on what they have done, supported by a facilitator. Participants (no more than 3) work on real-time issues of primary importance to them individually, where each person makes use of 45 minutes of the group’s time to explore and resolve a key issue, problem or difficulty they are currently facing. Participants learn not only through receiving support from others on their individual issues, but also learn significantly through supporting the learning of others. When run  in parallel with 1-1 coaching, action learning has a multiplier effect, deepening, broadening, consolidating and accelerating desired learning and change.

Ad-hoc 1-1/1-2 Coaching (90 mins) - £180

For those of you unsure or unable to engage in a series of coaching sessions, there is also the possibility to put into place an ad-hoc coaching offering to suit your specific needs and constraints.

Furthermore, subject to discussion within our coaching relationship, there may also be utility  in organising a 1-2 coaching session, where a co-facilitator is involved to support further learning. This would be subject to discussion and your full agreement before any date can be set.
