Addressing Acute/Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain & Dysfunction

Have you injured yourself recently? Do you experience stiffness or is your ability to move otherwise inhibited? Is persistent pain getting you down?

At Healthiem, we cover all of these complaints, from occasional back pain to persistent on-going musculoskeletal dysfunction. We take you through a systematic process to identify why and what has caused your presenting complaint, giving you clarity and understanding of how to heal and prevent your presenting issues from reoccurring (please see our ‘how does virtual therapy work?’ section for more information).

Restoring Healthy Movement Patterns

The way we have all learned to how to use our bodies is a critically significant source of chronic pain and dysfunction. An obvious example is our well-engrained habit of using our backs bending over to put our shoes on, pet the dog or fill the dishwasher, which we all do without realising that this is in fact an unhealthy movement pattern that is likely to be a contributing factor in the development of future pain and dysfunction over time. On the other hand, work-based examples of dysfunctional movement patterns are more obvious to us, such as sitting at a desk all day, or manual tasks involving repetitive movements.

At Healthiem, we actively support you first in identifying your dysfunctional movement patterns. Once we have identified together the cause of your pain and dysfunction, we then teach you how to restore healthy movement through targeted Pilates exercises for example.

Sports Performance & Bodywork Coaching

Hitting a new personal record or losing weight in the short term is relatively easy to do, but most of the techniques we employ for a quick fix are not sustainable and are damaging to your body. Quick weight loss regimes do not work and mostly rely on reducing your water content through dehydration. The same applies to hitting a new personal record in the short term. Your body can indeed deliver quick results, but at what longer term cost? Seasoned experts will tell you that long term performance improvements depend on learning and repeatedly practicing technique well under your 80% max rate. Strength, endurance, functionality, weight loss/gain etc., all take a long time to perfect, and require appropriate knowledge and understanding, consistency and dedication.

At Healthiem we have the expertise and the experience to help you achieve your long term sports performance and body work goals.

Interpretation & Integration Of Core Health

A lot of what we pass off as ‘getting older’ is actually a result of something we are doing, or neglecting to do, that we are not aware may well be a problem. A pertinent example is skin condition. Diet is a key factor influencing your skin condition and being aware of how vitamin deficiencies and food intolerance affects skin health is vital to preventing premature aging. The aging process is linked to inflammation - controlling inflammation is therefore of primary importance in supporting core health and wellbeing.

At Healthiem, we help you to understand what you need to know about your core health in order to live a better quality of life.  Just a few examples of the conditions we can help you with include insomnia, tinnitus, high blood pressure, asthma, abdominal complaints, fatigue, cognitive decline, hormonal imbalances, liver conditions and so on.

Supporting
Disease Process Management

Here our focus is to support you through a whole range of diagnosed conditions such as, but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. The idea is to minimise the impact of the disease through dietary and lifestyle modifications.

Well-being
Coaching

The body makes no distinction between different kinds of stress, all of which add to the toxic load affecting your health over time. Emotional stress is as important to address as faulty movement patterns or poor dietary choices. At Healthiem, our aim is to support your overall well-being by developing techniques and strategies to manage and address sources of emotional stress affecting your health.
